April 22Apr 22 Somewhere in the next couple of month's the forum software I'm using here is going to be updated to the next version, v5. I'm kinda conservative when it comes to updating software, if it works, it works. Like I used photoshop version 3, from before the year 2000, well up into 2020. Had to stop as it no longer worked, else I'd still be using it. It becomes something else if security is at risk. And if I stick with the current forum software: v4, it will mean security updates will soon after v5 has launched, become sparse and then become obsolete. We can't have that so I'll be updating and have my fingers crossed not too much is breaking or changed. It does mean I need to prepare this forum for the update. I already made some needed changes in the background and I am now manually modifying its database, which is a giant pain in the rear. In short, I need to change the storage engine some"" of the tables use. Why I cannot use a script for this is beyond me, but I have to go through each database table 1 by 1 like presented here: Then I need to check if its stored as 'MyISAM' or InnoDB and if it's a 'MyISAM' table click that table and get to see this next database page: Click the 'Operations' tag and get to a third page and there change 'MyISAM' to 'InnoDB'.: Then if all is ok I should be greated by this page: And then I must find my way back to the first page and repeat all these steps feeling like ad infinitum (not the band). I spend yesterday more then an hour on this and it's mindnumbing, doing this repeated task over and over. Worse is there seems to be no end to this. It's only a couple of hundred tables I need to alter but still... uhhhrggg! I still cannot believe this can't be done automated, but well...
June 18Jun 18 Author Well, I updated the 4Forum's software yesterday (with trembling hands) after making 1/2 a backup. The other half containing all the images etc. runs in the gigabytes and trying to down that will run into disconnects and more of that, so being there before, I did not even try that. . After the backup the upoad went smooth and upgrade process was quick after that. Today I'm re-ordering the forum a bit a finding my way around again. Let me know if you run into anything that's not working, shouldn't be there or anything else that seems off or odd. (Jeebus, I need to fix (redo) <-these soon... /o\ ) --Rick
